What is AMQ?
ActiveMQ (AMQ) is a messaging system used to transmit data in real time between systems. It functions like a live data pipeline, continuously sending information from one location to another as events occur.
In the context of Trackman baseball operations, ActiveMQ uses the TCP protocol to deliver small packets of tracking data from the Trackman v3 server installed at the ballpark directly to Major League Baseball (MLB)’s cloud infrastructure.
Why ActiveMQ is Important
ActiveMQ serves as MLB’s primary real-time data delivery method for Trackman tracking data. It ensures that game information is transmitted quickly, reliably, and continuously during live play.
Other data delivery methods—such as CSV files, DataAPI, or Play-by-Play feeds—may also be available for analysis or backup purposes, but ActiveMQ is the main channel used to deliver live tracking data to MLB systems during games
