Tagging App | Batting Practice Setup

Batting Practice

Batting Practice is a session where the ball is thrown from 30-50 ft. from the tip of home plate and at a much slower velocity. This session is to help practice or warm up before a game.

Selecting Batting Practice from Home Screen

The Batting Practice feature is located on the Home Screen at the bottom of the page in the Baseball Team Portal.

Organization selection

  • Once the user has selected the Batting Practice feature from the home screen you will be met with a pop up that asks you to select the organization.

  • The user should select the organization that they represent. If they fail to select the correct organization OR they don't select an organization at all then the BP session will not be delivered to them.

Setting Up Batting Practice

  • Once the organization is selected the user can click the "Create and Set Lineup" button and move to the Lineup screen.

Setting Lineup

  • Here the user will search for the team that is participating in the BP session. Once the team is selected then the user can start adding players from that team to the lineup.
  • The lineup will only increase by one player each time and there is not a set number of players for the lineup.

  • The user can add as many players as needed to the sessions. The user can add players both by typing in a player's name to the row or by using the "+" button in the roster tab.
  • Once the user is satisfied with the players in the lineup and the order, the user may move forward by clicking on the "Start Tagging" button.

Batting Practice Tagging

The tagging screen looks very similar to the tagging screen of a normal game. There are only a couple of differences.

Hits section

  • The hits section is where the user will see the play information pop up throughout the BP session. It is very similar to the tagging screen's Plays section, but this section focuses more on the hit data than any other data.

Lineup section

  • The Lineup section has only one difference than the tagging screen lineup section and that is that there is no pitcher and only hitters present. BP sessions are focused on hitters so having a pitcher is unnecessary.
  • The user will be responsible for changing the batters throughout the session. If the user needs to add a player to the session, he/she can do so by selecting the edit button (pen in top right of section) and a small lineup model will pop up.
  • From here the user can make any changes the same way he/she would make changes on the lineup screen.

Tagging section

  • The Tagging section is a very simple section in the BP feature. The toggle in the top right of the section turns Hit typing on and off (it is defaulted to off).
  • If the user does not want to hit type, then they don't need to tag anything here. If they are hit typing and a play comes in with no hit, then they also will not need to tag anything and can press enter to save the tag immediately.

Metrics section

This section is unchanged from the Tagging screen in a normal game.

Proper Setup on the Field

  •  Pitch or place pitching machine 20-30 feet in front of pitching rubber
    • Pitching machines throwing over 50 mph will need to be from the rubber and set as
      a scrimmage game.
  • For Live Bullpens tag like normal, if you do not want to switch innings every 3rd out. Then
you can mark every strike as a foul.
  • Additionally, if you are testing out new install, ensure there are no disruptions at home
plate as this will skew the data when attempting to grab all the output metrics.
